Manchester United secured a 2–0 victory over Manchester City in Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off, marking a positive start to life under new head coach Michael Carrick.
The Red Devils, playing at home, started the match brightly and had two goals ruled out for offside in the first half as they dominated early proceedings.
United eventually broke the deadlock after the interval, with Bryan Mbeumo finishing off a swift counter-attack to give the hosts the lead.
Patrick Dorgu later doubled United’s advantage after connecting with a well-delivered cross from Matheus Cunha.
The win ends United’s run of four consecutive matches without a victory and hands Carrick his first success in charge. The result also deals a blow to Manchester City’s title ambitions, leaving them at risk of falling nine points behind league leaders Arsenal.
