Amazon has announced plans to lay off 16,000 employees worldwide as part of a broader restructuring effort, expanding on workforce reductions first revealed in October.
The tech giant had initially planned to eliminate about 14,000 roles, but the latest update increases the scale of the layoffs as Amazon moves to streamline operations amid slower growth and rising costs.
According to the company, the job cuts are aimed at simplifying its corporate structure and improving efficiency. Amazon’s Senior Vice President, Beth Galetti, said the decision is focused on “reducing layers, increasing ownership, and removing bureaucracy” across teams.
The layoffs are expected to impact multiple divisions globally, adding to the wave of job cuts sweeping through the tech industry as companies adapt to shifting economic conditions.
