French winger Allan Saint-Maximin has left Club América after just six months, citing racist incidents that targeted his children during his time in Mexico.
Saint-Maximin confirmed his decision in an emotional statement, explaining that while he has learned to endure personal criticism throughout his career, attacks directed at his family were unacceptable to him.
“The problem is not the colour of skin, it’s the colour of thoughts,” the footballer said.
“They attack me, that’s not a problem. I’ve grown up, I’ve learned to fight back against attacks, whether they’re hidden, concealed or direct.”
However, he made it clear there was a line he would not allow to be crossed.
“But there is one thing I will never tolerate, and that’s someone going after my children,” he added.
The departure brings a premature end to Saint-Maximin’s stint in Mexico, where he joined Club América with high expectations but struggled to fully settle amid off-field issues.
The incident has sparked fresh conversations around racism in football, player welfare, and the impact of abuse on athletes’ families, with many fans and commentators expressing support for the winger’s stance.
As of now, Club América have not issued a detailed public response regarding the allegations, while Saint-Maximin is expected to weigh his next career move away from Mexico.
