Oyindamola Sanni Opens Up on Aníkúlápó Return, Growth and Big Nollywood Dreams

Actress and producer Oyindamola Sanni has spoken candidly about her evolving career, her return to Aníkúlápó: The Ghoul Awakens, and her long-term ambitions within Nigeria’s film industry.

Oyindamola, who continues to build her presence across streaming platforms and digital media, said she remains deeply invested in both acting and producing.

According to her, recent projects span films created for her YouTube channel as well as a production for Netflix.

Reflecting on her return to Kunle Afolayan’s epic fantasy series, the actress reprised her role as Olatorera and described the experience as rewarding—especially her on-screen and off-screen bond with Sola Sobowale, who plays her mother in the series.

“Working with Sola Sobowale was very special. We catch up a lot and she’s one of my mentors,” Oyindamola said, adding that collaborating again with Kunle Afolayan was “great and awesome.”

Opening up about her character, Oyindamola described Olatorera as one of the emotional anchors of the story.

“Olatorera is a lover girl and she never learns. No slacking and no dulling,” she said with a laugh. “I’m a lover girl in real life too—that’s me.”

She also revealed that one of the major challenges in the new season was learning Portuguese for her role.

“When Uncle Kunle asked if I could speak Portuguese, I said no. I had to download an app and really put in the work,” she said, noting that the effort paid off based on audience feedback.

Looking to the future, Oyindamola said she envisions Nollywood reaching unprecedented global heights—and sees herself as part of that transformation.

“I see Nollywood becoming the largest film industry in the world. I see myself owning a film studio, becoming a household name, impacting lives through storytelling and creating opportunities for people,” she said.

She added that she is intentional about the projects she takes on, stressing that stories must be compelling and meaningful.

Aníkúlápó: The Ghoul Awakens premiered on Netflix on January 30 and continues the story that began with the 2022 film Aníkúlápó, expanding its blend of Yoruba history, fantasy and mythology. The series features returning cast members including Sola Sobowale, Bimbo Ademoye, Aisha Lawal, Ronke Oshodi-Oke, Lateef Adedimeji and others.

For Oyindamola Sanni, the journey is far from over—and she’s just getting started.
