An explosion has severely damaged the Abundant Life Fellowship Church in upstate New York, leaving five people injured.
The New York State Police confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.
According to authorities, a gas odour had been reported inside the church, located in the town of Boonville, Oneida County, prior to the explosion on Tuesday.
Police said a firefighter was inside the building when the blast occurred. The firefighter and a civilian were critically injured.
All five injured individuals were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities added that there are no indications of criminal activity linked to the explosion.
