The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has raised alarm over an alleged attack on former presidential candidate Peter Obi and members of the movement in Benin City, Edo State.

In a statement titled “Breaking Red Alert in Benin, Edo State,” Tanko claimed that armed individuals shot at Obi and others during the formal defection of Olumide Akpata to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to Tanko, the incident occurred after the event at the ADC Secretariat, as Obi and party leaders proceeded to the residence of John Odigie-Oyegun in Benin City.

He alleged that armed men followed them and opened fire at the gate of the residence, damaging several vehicles. Tanko described the development as a suspected assassination attempt and warned that democracy was under threat.

As of the time of reporting, there has been no official statement from security agencies regarding the incident.
