FG Won’t Allow Insurgents Destroy Nigeria’s Peace – Shettima

Kashim Shettima

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has said the Federal Government will not allow insurgents to undermine the country’s peace or intimidate its citizens.

His statement followed recent attacks by insurgents in parts of Borno State. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier reached out to the government and people of the state following the incidents.

The attacks reportedly involved abductions in Ngoshe and coordinated assaults on military positions in Konduga, Marte, Jakana and Mainok.

In a statement shared by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Shettima strongly condemned the violence and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of Nigerians.

According to him, the Federal Government has begun deploying additional tactical equipment and intelligence support to the affected areas.

“The events of the past few days are painful, but we must choose hope over fear,” Shettima said.

He added that President Tinubu had already been briefed on the situation and had directed a rapid and comprehensive mobilisation of Nigeria’s security apparatus.

“The Federal Government will not allow any place in Nigeria to become a safe haven for people who want to displace citizens or take over any part of our land,” the vice president stated.

Shettima also assured Nigerians that those responsible for the attacks would be brought to justice and would face the full weight of the law.
