Reece James has agreed a new six-year contract with Chelsea F.C. that will keep the club captain at Stamford Bridge until 2032.
The 26-year-old defender, a product of Chelsea’s academy, made his first-team debut for the Blues in September 2019 and has since become one of the club’s most important players.
According to reports first published by The Athletic, the new agreement retains an incentive-based structure tied to both individual and team performances.
The England national football team international is currently Chelsea’s highest-paid player, earning around £250,000 per week.
Reece James’ previous deal was due to expire in 2028 and renewing it had been a key priority for the club since the takeover by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital in 2022.
This season, James has started 19 of his 26 appearances in the Premier League and has made a total of 225 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions.
Negotiations reportedly progressed quickly, with the defender encouraged by his recovery after several injury-disrupted seasons.
He underwent surgery in December 2023 to address a recurring hamstring injury.
During his time at Chelsea, Reece James has won the UEFA Champions League in 2021, the UEFA Super Cup the same year, as well as the UEFA Europa Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025.
He was named club captain three years ago and could be in line to start at right-back for England at the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States if he maintains his fitness and form.
