FG Fulfils Rewards Promise to D’Tigress After 2025 AfroBasket Triumph

The Federal Government has fulfilled its promises to D’Tigress following their victory at the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.

The Nigerian team, coached by Rena Wakama, defeated Mali women’s national basketball team 78–64 in the final of the tournament held in August last year.

After the victory, Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, approved a cash reward equivalent to $100,000 for each player, while the coach and every member of the technical crew were awarded $50,000 each.

The President also conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each player and member of the technical team.

In addition, Tinubu directed that a residential flat be allocated to each player, coach, and technical crew member as part of the rewards for their achievement.

The documents confirming the houses and national honours were presented to the players and officials by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, alongside the Director-General, Bukola Olopade, in Lyon on Monday.

D’Tigress are currently in France competing at the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Lyon.
