“Stop This Now!” — EFCC Warns Sabinus Over Fake ‘Wanted’ Poster

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has issued a warning to comedian Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, popularly known as Sabinus, following a viral claim that he had been declared wanted by the agency.

The clarification came on Thursday after a poster circulated on social media suggesting the skit maker was being sought by the commission.

Reacting via its official X page, the EFCC dismissed the claim as false, boldly labeling the viral poster “Fake News.”

The agency also issued a direct warning to the comedian, writing, “Clout chaser, stop this now!”

The incident highlights the growing trend of online misinformation, in which public figures are sometimes falsely linked to criminal investigations or regulatory actions to generate attention.

Sabinus, who rose to fame through his comedic skits, gained wider recognition after winning the Best Online Social Content Creator award at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in 2022.

As of the time of this report, the comedian has not publicly responded to the EFCC’s statement.
