Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma is stepping into one of the biggest moments of his career, and he is not hiding his excitement.
The entertainer has been unveiled as one of the hosts for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, and he says it is a major milestone.
Speaking in an interview, Bovi described the opportunity as a huge career boost, calling it a defining moment in his journey.
“That’s a plus. It’s pretty much the biggest award show in Africa, so for me, it’s a major feather to my heart and a colour to my résumé,” he said.
Interestingly, the comedian admitted the call came as a surprise, especially considering that IK Osakioduwa has been the face of the show since it started in 2013.
“I wasn’t expecting it… I was really happy when I got the call,” he added.
Despite the pressure of hosting a room full of top filmmakers and actors, Bovi made it clear he is not intimidated.
According to him, industry professionals understand entertainment and come ready to enjoy the moment, making it easier for the audience to connect with them than most people would expect.
He also revealed that preparations are already in full swing, emphasising that hosting the AMVCA is not a one-person job but a team effort backed by serious planning and coordination.
Beyond the glamour, Bovi Ugboma described the AMVCA as a major force in African storytelling, noting that it has become a cultural event that people across the continent and in the diaspora look forward to every year.
He downplayed the obsession with winning, explaining that being invited, nominated, or winning all carry the same essence just with different levels of recognition.
Bovi also reflected on his evolution as a comedian, noting that his style has shifted from exaggerated storytelling to more reality-driven content that connects with everyday experiences.
For this year’s ceremony, he will be sharing the stage with South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha, as both stars gear up to host the event scheduled for May 9, 2026, at the Eko Hotel and Suites.
With expectations already high, all eyes are now on Bovi Ugboma to deliver a performance that matches the scale of Africa’s biggest film and television night.
