Cadbury Nigeria Plc has announced the resignation of prominent business executive Ibukun Awosika from its board of directors, bringing to an end a tenure of more than 15 years.
The company disclosed the development in a notice to the Nigerian Exchange Limited and the investing public on Wednesday.
According to the notice, signed by Company Secretary Afolasade Olowe, Awosika’s resignation will take effect from May 1, 2026.
In the statement, the company acknowledged her long service and contributions to the board since joining in October 2009.
“The Board expresses its deep appreciation to Mrs. Awosika for her valued contribution since her appointment in October 2009,” the statement said.
Cadbury Nigeria also stated that a replacement for the outgoing director will be announced in due course.
Awosika’s exit marks the close of a significant chapter at the company, during which she served as changes swept across Nigeria’s consumer goods sector and corporate governance landscape.
Widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most prominent business leaders, Awosika is known not only for her role at Cadbury but also for her leadership in corporate and entrepreneurial circles.
She is the founder of The Chair Center Group and also served as the first female chairman of First Bank of Nigeria Limited, a role that elevated her profile in the country’s financial sector.
Her departure from the Cadbury board is likely to draw attention, given her longstanding association with the company and her broader influence in Nigerian business.
While no reason for the resignation was stated in the notice, the company’s statement focused on its appreciation for her service and indicated that succession plans are underway.
