Ireti Kingibe has secured a N20 million court award after the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a suit seeking to validate her suspension from the African Democratic Congress.
Justice Peter Lifu delivered the judgment on Friday, ruling against the plaintiffs and awarding punitive costs of N20 million in favour of the senator.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CV/539/2026, was filed by Okezuo Anayo and Isaiah Samuel on behalf of the ADC Ward Executive Committee in the Federal Capital Territory.
The plaintiffs had asked the court to uphold Senator Kingibe’s suspension by the Wuse Ward Executive Committee and prevent her from presenting herself publicly as a member of the ADC.
According to court filings, the suspension was allegedly carried out on March 10 over accusations including insubordination and anti party activities.
“The suspension was duly communicated to the defendant and relevant party organs,” Samuel stated in an affidavit before the court.
The plaintiffs also argued that Kingibe continued to parade herself as a card-carrying member of the party despite the suspension.
Among the requests before the court were declarations affirming the suspension and an order restraining the senator from participating in ADC activities pending the determination of her disciplinary status.
However, Justice Lifu dismissed the suit, ruling that the matter was an internal party dispute beyond the court’s jurisdiction.
The court also declined to stop Kingibe from identifying herself as a member of the ADC or participating in party affairs.
The judgment marks another legal victory for the senator amid ongoing political tensions surrounding party leadership and internal disciplinary processes within the ADC.
