Meta Delays Public Release of Muse Spark AI API as Developers Await Access

Meta has postponed the public release of its Muse Spark artificial intelligence API multiple times since unveiling the technology in April, raising questions among developers and investors eager to gain access to the company’s latest AI model.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Meta has repeatedly delayed plans to make the Muse Spark API available to developers and, as of this week, has yet to announce a confirmed launch date.

The report, citing people familiar with the matter, suggested the rollout had experienced several behind-the-scenes delays.

However, Meta has pushed back against suggestions that the project has stalled.

A company spokesperson said testing is already underway with a select group of early partners and maintained that the public API remains on track for release later this month.

“The Muse Spark API will be coming soon,” Meta’s Chief AI Officer, Alexandr Wang, wrote in a post on X shortly after the model was introduced in April.

The API is expected to allow developers to integrate Muse Spark directly into their applications, services, and software products. APIs serve as bridges that enable different software systems to communicate with one another, making them a critical part of modern AI deployment.

Meta introduced Muse Spark as the first major model developed under its Superintelligence Labs initiative, a new division created to accelerate the company’s artificial intelligence ambitions and strengthen its position against rivals such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google.

While consumers can already access Muse Spark through Meta’s applications via built-in modes such as Instant, Thinking, and Contemplating, developers are still unable to use the model independently.

Meta has yet to release key information, including technical documentation, pricing structures, rate limits, eligibility requirements, or a public waitlist.

The lack of clarity has created uncertainty among developers hoping to build products around the model.

Without access to technical specifications or deployment guidelines, businesses interested in adopting Muse Spark are unable to evaluate costs, integration timelines, or product roadmaps properly.

The delays arrive at a particularly important moment for Meta’s AI strategy.

The company has invested heavily in artificial intelligence infrastructure, talent acquisition, and product development as competition intensifies across the sector.

Investors have been closely monitoring whether those investments can translate into commercially successful products that can compete with leading AI platforms.

Adding to the scrutiny are recent reports of an Instagram security incident involving Meta’s AI-powered support systems, which raised concerns about the reliability of automated account management processes.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Muse Spark’s API launch, Meta continues to expand its AI portfolio.

Earlier this week, the company unveiled a new AI agent designed to help businesses automate routine tasks, signaling a broader push into enterprise services beyond consumer chatbots.

The move underscores Meta’s ambition to compete directly with major AI players across multiple market segments, including business productivity tools, developer platforms, and advanced AI assistants.

Muse Spark is expected to play a central role in that strategy.

Meta has described the model as the first in a new generation of advanced artificial intelligence systems emerging from its Superintelligence Labs division.

For now, however, access remains limited to a small group of testing partners. At the same time, developers, analysts, and investors continue to wait for the company to officially open the platform to the wider public.

Until Meta provides a launch date and detailed technical information, questions will remain about when Muse Spark will be ready to compete at scale in the increasingly crowded AI market.
