Meta has unveiled a new lineup of AI-powered smart glasses called Meta Glasses, marking another major step in the company’s growing investment in wearable technology.

Announced on Tuesday, the new glasses start at $299 and are being developed in partnership with eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica. Unlike Meta’s previous smart glasses, however, the latest models do not carry the Ray-Ban or Oakley branding.

The Meta Glasses are available from today in multiple countries, with buyers able to choose from a range of frame styles, colours, and lens options.

The launch comes as competition in the smart glasses market intensifies, with Meta strengthening its position as one of the industry’s dominant players.

According to Counterpoint Research, Meta and EssilorLuxottica currently control more than 80% of the global smart glasses market.

Although the new glasses do not feature built-in displays, they offer several AI-powered capabilities, such as an integrated camera, open-ear speakers, and a dedicated button to activate Meta AI.

By default, pressing the button launches the company’s AI assistant, although users can customize it to open other features.

Meta says the AI assistant can answer questions, provide live information such as sports scores, recommend nearby restaurants, understand what the user is looking at through the camera, and assist with everyday tasks.

The company also claims the glasses deliver more than eight hours of battery life, while the accompanying charging case provides an additional 40 hours of usage on the go.

The initial collection includes three frame designs:

  • Meta Adventurer – a classic rectangular design available in standard and large sizes.
  • Meta Fury – a bold, boxier frame inspired by popular men’s eyewear styles.
  • Meta Glasses by Kylie – a slimmer oval-shaped frame created in collaboration with American model and entrepreneur Kylie Jenner.

Meta also announced several software upgrades coming to the glasses in future updates.

Among the new features is Pedestrian Navigation, which will provide turn-by-turn walking directions directly through the AI assistant.

The company is also expanding its Live Translation feature to support 14 additional languages, including Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, and Korean, making cross-language conversations more accessible.

The latest launch further demonstrates Meta’s ambition to make AI assistants part of everyday life through wearable devices rather than relying solely on smartphones.

The announcement comes just one week after Snap introduced its own consumer smart glasses, Specs, priced at $2,195, highlighting the growing competition among major technology companies to dominate the emerging AI wearables market.

With a significantly lower starting price and deeper integration of Meta AI, the new Meta Glasses are expected to appeal to consumers seeking hands-free access to artificial intelligence while staying connected throughout the day.
