“You can’t call yourself my friend while laughing with my enemy” – Sophia Egbueje unfollow her bestie, Ama Reginald

Sophia Egbueje unfollow her bestie, Ama Reginald

Sophia Egbueje and Ama Reginald appear to have fallen out again, as both unfollow each other on Instagram.

The friendship between Lagos socialite Sophia Egbueje and influencer Ama Reginald appears to be on rocky ground again, and this time the receipts are sitting right there in their Instagram following lists.

Screenshots circulating online show that the two have unfollowed each other on the platform. Sophia’s account shows no trace of Ama in her following list, and the feeling is mutual, with Ama’s page returning the same result when searched.

It’s the kind of quiet social media move that speaks louder than any caption, and Nigerian Twitter picked up on it immediately.

Sophia’s recent post added fuel to the fire. She shared what many are reading as a pointed message: “You can’t call yourself my friend while laughing with my enemy.” No name tagged, no direct callout, just the kind of line that lands differently when you know the history between these two.

And that history is long. The pair were among Lagos’s most-photographed social duos until February 2025, when everything unravelled publicly.

A leaked audio recording featuring Sophia surfaced in which she vented that Ama had encouraged her to pursue a meeting with Burna Boy, promising that the Afrobeats star would gift her a luxury car in return.

When the car never materialised, and Sophia later spotted Ama out socialising with Burna Boy and his rumoured girlfriend Chloe Bailey, the friendship crumbled fast.

A second voice note between Sophia and her cousin made the rounds shortly after; in it, Sophia called Ama a bad friend and all but confirmed the split.

What made the whole saga messier was that Ama wasn’t new to friendship controversies. Bo Hairs had previously gone on Instagram Live to accuse her of driving a wedge between herself and Hilda Baci, labelling her a social climber.

Ama, for her part, broke her silence with a carefully worded Instagram post that acknowledged the pressure without addressing the specific allegations directly.

Then came the supposed reconciliation. Just days after the fallout dominated timelines, the two were spotted together on Snapchat, seemingly sharing an apartment.

Photos of them reunited on a beach made the rounds not long after, leading plenty of people to wonder whether the entire thing had been staged for attention all along.

Based on the unfollowing screenshots, it seems whatever peace was reached didn’t hold. Whether this is a genuine second falling out, a slow simmer that never fully cooled, or the next chapter of a very online friendship cycle is anyone’s guess. But for now, the follow buttons tell their own story.
