Maintaining a work life balance is tough but it is essential to living a happy life. The hustle culture is very prominent in our life and owing to this hustle culture, work has started playing a major role in our own life.
The work-life has become such a priority that there is little difference left between the professional and personal life which at a later point of time creates frustration.
However, it is important to create a work-life balance to ensure physical, mental and emotional well-being. Also, a good work-life balance ensures that you excel both in your personal and professional life.
1. Find a job that you love
If you engage yourself in a work or career that you do not actually enjoy, it will always feel like a burden. Therefore, it is important that you choose a career path that you love.
Having said that, it does not mean in any way that you will have to fall in love with all the aspects of your job, however, it is important to love major elements of your job.
Your job should excite you in the morning instead of giving you Monday blues. Having a job that you love will solve half the problem that you have.
2. Try the Pomodoro technique
The Pomodoro technique is an effective time management technique that helps you to concentrate fully on the task at hand. By default, in the Pomodoro technique, a person needs to focus on the work for 25 minutes which is followed by a five-minute break. During this short break, you can refresh yourself by playing games like Spider Solitaire.
After four such Pomodoro, a person can take a longer break of 15 to 20 minutes and at this point, you can take a coffee break or start playing tougher versions of Solitaire. By ensuring that you get the required amount of break, the Pomodoro technique increases your productivity.
3. Unplug
Technology has made life easier but at the same time, it can prove to be a major distraction if it is not properly handled. Did it ever happen to you that in the middle of your work, you ended up chatting with your friends or started scrolling mindlessly on Instagram? To avoid such distractions, consider unplugging yourself from technology.
For instance, if you need to do your office work on a laptop, consider placing your smartphone behind the laptop to avoid being distracted from the notification.
4. Give priority to your health
It is important to give priority to health. It needs to be noted that health simply does not refer to physical health. Your health comprises your physical health, mental health and emotional health.
One easy way of determining whether you are healthy or not is by checking your feelings. You can determine whether you are not feeling happy, or are just feeling okay. Based on your feelings, you can start working on your health.
5. Go for a vacation every now and then
A working person is sometimes very afraid of taking a vacation and the fear is driven by the stress of disruption of the workflow. However, vacation plays a very important role in recharging your soul. The pros of going for a vacation will always outweigh the downsides.
6. Have set working hours
Extending your work hours to your personal time is never a good idea. It can drain you and further create frustration. Always, have a fixed duration of working hours and stick to this working hour. Time blocking is a technique that can be applied for effectively scheduling the working hours in a realistic manner.
7. Take out time to do what you love
Ensure that each day, you allocate some time to do what you love. Pursuing your hobby every day will energise and refresh you. Having a creative outlet is important for everyone. It provides you with the zeal to focus on your work. Many people seldom find time to pursue their habits. To avoid such a situation, it is important to allocate a dedicated time period to pursue what you love.
In the end, it is important to acknowledge that having a work-life balance requires time and there is no fixed definition of work-life balance. The work-life balance differs from person to person and you have to set your very own definition for it.
