Alex Iwobi allegedly banned for Nigeria’s 2022 World Cup playoff against Ghana

Everton Attacking Midfielder, and super eagles player, Alex Iwobi is set to miss Nigeria’s match against Ghana for a spot in the 2022 World Cup taking place in Qatar.

The new development is a result of his unprofessional actions on the pitch last night after bagging a red card minutes he came on as a substitute during the Super Eagles 1-0 loss to Tunisia, yesterday.

The midfielder was sent off for a foul after coming on as a substitute in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 matches against Tunisia.

Maguette N’Diaye, a Senegalese referee, had first issued a yellow card for the foul.

However, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) encouraged him to check the pitch-side monitor, and he did so, upgrading the yellow to a red.

Iwobi has been banned for the Super Eagles’ next African fixtures, which coincidentally include a match against the Black Stars.
