Allegations that Kim Kardashian ruined Marilyn Monroe’s famous outfit have received a response from the star.

After shedding 20 pounds to fit into the garment, the mother-of-four wore it to the Met Gala in 2022.

When she sang Happy Birthday to President John F. Kennedy in 1964, late Hollywood legend Marilyn was dressed in the outfit.

Kim was accused of taking the dress back to Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! exhibit after the Met Gala with the appearance of wear and tear.

Kim appeared on the Today show to speak about the allegations for the first time.

Host Hoda Kotb asked the reality star: “We keep seeing stuff like, ‘The dress is ruined’… All of that is not true?”

Kim replied: “No. Ripley’s [and I] worked together so well; there were handlers in gloves that put it on me.

“It was such a process… I showed up to the red carpet in a robe and slippers, and I put the dress on on the bottom of the carpet, went up the stairs … I probably had it on for three minutes, four minutes.”

Kim added: “I respect [Monroe]. I understand how much this dress means to American history.

“And with the theme [of the Met Gala] being American, I thought, ‘What’s more American than Marilyn Monroe singing happy to the President of the United States?'”

In their defence of the star, a spokesperson for Ripley’s said last week: “From the bottom of the Met steps, where Kim got into the dress, to the top where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition it started in.”

Kim also talked about her controversial weight loss for the event, saying: “I looked at it like a role. And I really wanted to wear this dress. It was really important to me.

“It actually taught me a lot about my lifestyle and my health. I’m down 21 pounds now.”
