Asa, an award-winning musician from Nigeria, got people talking on Tuesday as she performed one of her hit songs titled “Fire on the mountain” in the presence of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Asa sang the song at the relaunch of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited on Tuesday, an event attended by the president.
Some lyrics from her performance reads;
“There is fire on the mountain,
And nobody seems to be on the run,
Oh, there is fire on the mountaintop,
And no one is a-runnin’,
“I wake up in the morning,
Tell you what I see on my TV screen,
I see the blood of an innocent child,
And everybody’s watchin.”
Reacting to Asa’s performance, Nigerians said the singer chose the platform to send a direct message to President Buhari.
“A strong and clear warning before the entire government of the federation. Bold and beautifully rendered,” a Nigerian with the name Edward Etta wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
Aluko Oluwatobi Gbenga said: “Very timely, the fire is already at the valley consuming us all in village and cities.”
Kolawole Opejin wrote: “God bless you the more Asa. If they say they can’t hear, you’ve spoken into their conscience.”
Orngu Anngu said: “Kai… Not a song for that occasion… I can feel how uneasy those in the hall will feel.”
Ifedayo Oyewumi said: “The fact that she didn’t write and release the song during the Buhari’s administration shows that the fire has been burning since. No, be today! This song will always make sense irrespective of who is in power until the Kingdom of God comes. #Truth Kudos to her for this Fantastic performance!”
Ezenwa Ilotchonwu said: “Obviously! There’s fire on the mountain. Our leaders need to be told the truth undeterred.”
