Ruger is the stage name of Nigerian singer and songwriter Michael Adebayo, He was (born September 23, 1999), in Lagos State, Nigeria, and was raised there. He is of Nigerian descent.
He graduated from prominent basic and secondary institutions in Lagos with his First School Leaving Certificate and West African School Certificate. Currently, Michael Adebayo Olayinka is a first-year student at the top universities in southwest Nigeria.
Career
His musical career began in the church choir, similar to that of many other Nigerian musicians. Since his family members loved music, it wasn’t surprising that he had an interest in it even as a young child.
During his time in school, he participated in his school musical band and had already started writing songs and singing them at sporting events and plays in Lagos.
In 2020, He met seasoned Nigerian artist D’Prince, who took an interest in him after hearing some of his tracks. D’Prince then began preparing him to become a skilled musician.
D’Prince, Rema, and Don Jazzy announced Ruger’s record agreement and welcomed him to the Jonzing World record on social media on January 18, 2021, putting him in the public eye.
His following on various social media platforms significantly expanded soon after the announcement as fans eagerly anticipated what he would offer and whether he would surpass Rema, who had been signed two years before, in terms of popularity.
He made his music debut on the label’s track “One Shirt,” which featured D’Prince, Rema, and Ruger, on January 20, 2021. Following the release of One Shirt, Ruger dropped his first music project, Pandemic, a six-track EP.
The EP’s lead single, “Bounce,” became a hit and spent weeks in the top 100 on Apple Music Nigeria. It peaked at number one on several Nigerian music charts at the time of release.
