 Biography

Who is Shaybo?

Shaybo (born October 5, 1996), is a Yoruba who hails from Nigeria. She went to boarding school in Abuja, the nation’s capital, while she lived in Nigeria. She went to London when she was six years old after spending a portion of her early years in Nigeria. Shaybo has three brothers and an older sister.

She spent a significant portion of her upbringing in the Southeast London borough of Lewisham. Shaybo frequently got into “trouble” in elementary school, which led to her being “excluded.”

She observed that she started acting out after seeing that London kids were allowed to get away with much more mischief than their counterparts in schools back home in Nigeria. Adegbite studied in the secondary school system at Catford High School.

Brown started her music career by freestyling with her pals at this point in her life. When she was 14 years old, she was a member of a music group, but she had to quit when her mother insisted she enrolls in college and gets a degree. Brown returned to music after receiving her social work degree. Music had always been her passion.

 Career

When Adegbite was fifteen years old, her career officially began. She performed freestyles with some of her close friends and musical peers, frequently in Piccadilly Circus. She and her pals created the “Shay’bo Freestyle” video, which they uploaded online in the winter of 2011.

She was just starting out in her career. She frequently worked on projects with the musicians Dumpz & Ratz, who were also her close friends. Dumpz eventually became a football professional.

The artist sent for Deedee (another rapper from Brixton, South London), who frequently teamed with rapper Sneakbo, in the renowned “Shay’bo Freestyle.” Brown had used the chance to make fun of Sneakbo in the freestyle by referring to herself as Shay’bo because of his connection to Deedee.

After this freestyle, Shay’bo became her official stage name because it is how her music fans began to address her.

Brown stopped rapping later in high school to concentrate on her education.

She continued to work on music at random times and of her own volition during that time. Before coming back from her break, Shay’bo released “Guess Who’s Back” in 2013 during this time.

After this, Brown took another seven years off. Brown thought that taking a hiatus from music was advantageous since it allowed her to develop. According to author Journee Bernard, one factor in Brown’s decision to stop making music in 2013 was that “there wasn’t as much of a sustainable infrastructure in place for independent MCs in UK rap.”

After this absence, Brown released the chart-topping single “Ya Dun Know,” which officially heralded her return to the music industry. Soon after, in February 2020, Brown dropped her second single, “Anger.”

As Brown kept putting out music, she won numerous accolades for her distinctive voice and influence to the UK rap scene. However, when her fame took off, COVID-19 spread quickly, leading to lockdowns everywhere.

This ultimately derailed Brown’s intentions for his career in the near future. In the end, Brown adapted to the new situation and carried on with his music career. In the summer of 2020, she released two singles, Dobale and Come for Shay featuring Snap Capone, as well as a Daily Duppy freestyle for GRMDaily.

The first mixtape by Brown was released in August 2021. After seeing the television program of the same name, which is about a woman named Teresa Mendoza, Brown gave this mixtape the title Queen of the South. She claims that the protagonist, who “started off naive and then managed to overcome her grief and her trauma and become a strong woman who’s really strong-willed, and who knows how to sit in a room full of guys and yet get her point across,” served as her inspiration.

The other tracks from the mixtape Queen of the South were “Mud,” “Friendly (feat. Haile),” and “My Sister (feat. Jorja Smith),” with “Broke Boyz (feat. DreamDoll)” she is currently signed to Black Butter Records
