‘Not all Edo women are prostitutes, all the ones abroad are gainfully employed’ – Imade Osawaru

The talented filmmaker Imade Osawaru has expressed her concerns about the persisting idea that prostitution is more common among women in Edo State.

In a recent interview, she stated: “Unfortunately, the prostitution narrative has spread like wildfire and now characterizes the Edo lady in general. I can certainly state that Edo women abroad are gainfully working as far as I know and from the time I spent abroad.

I don’t believe there is a story about Edo women that I would like to change since they work hard and achieve their goals, and whatever other narratives or insinuations people have about us are just that—their ideas. Everyone is entitled to their own viewpoints, she added.

Imade Osawaru also shared details of her private life. The actress, who recently celebrated her birthday, said that as long as a fan fits her requirements, she finds nothing wrong with getting married.

She recalled her recent awkward run-in with a fan in Benin City and added, “I just had a really hilarious and uncomfortable encounter with a persistent fan. For my aunt’s burial in Benin, the  traveled there. It surprised me when my friend remarked, “I made someone wants to talk to you,” that he had come with the merchants as one of their servers.
I responded, “Ok,” and the next thing I noticed one of the waiters was telling me he was shy because he was wearing his uniform to work and that he was one of my biggest fans who he still couldn’t believe he was meeting in person. He ensured that the table with my name on it was fed that day.
He pleaded with me to take his picture. Even after his supervisor had departed, he continued to wait until the family were ready to leave. Funny enough, if he can meet my requirements—respectful, loving, caring, and having plenty of money to spend—I can marry someone like him.
