Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress presidential candidate, has called Labour Party competitor Peter Obi the “greatest packaged scam.”
Sowore’s view stems from a comment made by Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, who said that his predecessor, Mr Peter Obiinvestments ,’s in the state were worthless.
“I think there was something I read about somebody speculating about whatever investment. With what I’ve seen today, the value of those investments is worth next to nothing. So, let’s leave that aside,” Soludo said during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday.
Worth mentioning, Mr Peter Obi had repeatedly said he made several investments in Anambra State while he was the state governor from 2006 to 2014.
On Twitter, shortly after Soludo’s submission, Omoyele Sowore wrote: “Charles Chukwuma Soludo @CCSoludo unveiling and unraveling @PeterObi on @channelstv over his fake investment portfolios. He stated that the “purported investments are next to nothing” Peter Obi is the “best packaged” fraud! #WeCantContinueLikeThis @TakeItBack.”
Moreover, Sowore’s decision to label Mr Peter Obi ‘a packaged fraud’ did not sit well with many Nigerians who disagreed with Governor Soludo’s claims.
@Njacoach wrote: “Investment was made when 1$ = N156, but today it’s N800. Intl Breweries is still there, but portfolio now worth ~25% of its original value in $. A Presidential aspirant & former CBN guv should understand basic economics to know who’s accountable for Naira collapse in forex market.”
@David Eboh wrote: “Sowore got this wrong. He can’t absolve APC their accountability for damaging national economic potentials with hostile business & tax policies, exchange rate of $1 = N900 & nepotism. Obi’s investment was used by Ikpeazu to build airport apart from his many verified achievements.”
@Isaiah: “When others leave office they are accused of looting and EFCC pick them up but in Obi’s case we are discussion the investment he made for the state not the money looted. He remains a starboy to u all.”
@Faren: “I disagree with you and Soludo. That is not what to say. Records have it that Mr Obi made the investments.”
Nevertheless, Soludo’s Channels Television interview comes a few months after he had dissociated himself from a viral investment news about Peter Obi.
The peddlers of what Soludo declared was a false news claimed that he (Governor Soludo) said Peter Obi’s $20 million Investment is worth $100 million today.
In a swift reaction, the governor, via his Facebook page debunked the news under the comment section of the viral post.
Urging citizens to carry out their election campaigns honorably without misleading the public, Soludo wrote, “Where did you read or hear me make such false statement?
“This fake news has been roundly debunked by my team. We can always carry on with campaigning for our preferred candidates without consciously misleading the reading public. This report is false and never emanated from me. Thank you.”
