The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Lagos State, Olajide Adediran, also known as Jandor, has stated that he will still participate in the Lagos governorship debate.
CREEBHILLS previously reported that Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will not attend a pre-governorship debate because he does not want to share the stage with Jandor.
This was when the Lagos State Government condemned a recent clash between armed men suspected to be PDP members and some hoodlums in the state’s Aguda, Surulere area.
The state government, according to reports, was reacting to a viral video that surfaced showing gunmen exchanging fire in broad daylight in the city.
The Lagos State Government, in a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, urged the police to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators.
However, according to reports, Jandor has responded, claiming that Sanwo-withdrawal Olu’s from the debate was due to his alleged failures in the state.
At a world press conference on Sunday, the PDP chieftain cited the governor’s alleged failures as the spiraling unemployment rate, which has risen from 14% when he took over four years ago to more than 30%, and the poverty level, which has doubled from 4% to 8% during the same period.
Jandor questioned why the Surulere shooting, which he claimed was aimed at him rather than Sanwo-Olu, could be used as an excuse to skip the debate.
He also wondered how a state’s chief security officer could refuse to attend a debate because of insecurity in the state over which he presided.
