Early Life

Patience Ozokwor (born 14 September 1958) is a Nigerian veteran musician, fashion designer, gospel singer, and actress.

Patience Ozokwo grew up in Amaobo, Ngwo, in present-day Enugu State, Nigeria. Patience Ozokwor has been passionate about acting since primary school, where she performed in different stage plays.

It is known that she is not the only child of her parents, as she occasionally talked about how she grew up alongside her siblings. However, little is known about them, given that none of them became popular just like her. Also, details about her parents’ identities are not revealed, but she once mentioned that her mother was a famous trader in their village back in the day.

Education

She attended Abimbola Gibson Memorial School in Lagos. She later attended the Institute of Management and Technology Enugu, where Patience obtained a fine and applied arts degree.

Career

Before starting as an actress, she was part of a Radio Drama.

She was an announcer and Radio Nigeria broadcaster before becoming an actress. She rose to fame from her role in the 1999 movie Authority, and her first TV drama won a soap opera, Someone Cares, on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). Since her rise to fame, she has acted in over 100 movies.

Patience Ozokwor got her breakthrough after Chika Okpala’s crew assigned her a role in a commercial without her having to audition. She also did a commercial with Pete Eneh, which moved Chief Zebrudaya and several other Nollywood directors. She was then asked to enter the industry but refused because she was shy and felt the film industry would give her excessive exposure. After several attempts of failed persuasion, they eventually managed to pull her to Nollywood.

Looking at her career as an actress, the screen queen rose steadily after taking part in commercials and a soap opera titled Someone Cares on the National Television Authority (NTA). Given her acting prowess, she got the opportunity to be invited to act in her first movie, which was in 1998. A year later, she did her second movie called Authority, which propelled her to the limelight and made her the African movie icon that we all know today.

Patience has played different roles in Nollywood movies. She has even acted as a mother to almost every Nollywood star, including Ini Edo, Van Vicker, Ramsey Nouah, Rita Dominic, Kanayo O Kanayo, Oge Okoye, and the rest. The veteran, who lost her husband years back and has refused to remarry, made this known in an interview with Mercy Johnson for her weekly cook show, Mercy’s Menu.

Patience Ozokwor stated that she can’t leave her husband’s house for anyone, because the side chick is the visitor and as such, must leave for her.

Mama G, as she is fondly called, added that she would hold her family tightly, polish it and sweep out the dirt in other to get back her home.

Even when the infidelity is constant, she insisted that she wouldn’t leave her house for anyone.

Mercy Johnson questioned the veteran,

Infidelity in marriage is a deal breaker. Can you advise anyone to leave if there is infidelity?

Mama G replied, “Me I am not going to leave my house for anybody ooo. You are the visitor that came in find your way out.

I will so hold my family, polish it, and sweep out all the dirt and I have a peaceful home again”.

You Don’t Need To Be In Lagos Or Abuja To Become Star

Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, a veteran Nollywood actress, has stated that living in the country’s most populous states, such as Lagos or Abuja, does not guarantee success in the film industry.

We report that the actress made the statement on Tuesday night in Enugu during the candle procession night in honour of the late Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Africa Movie Academy Awards, Madam Peace Anyiam-Osigwe.

According to Patience, many of her colleagues began their careers in Enugu State but moved to Abuja and Lagos as stars and forgot their roots.

The thespian, on the other hand, stated that she would stay in the village and would confidently tell anyone she is from the village whenever she travels outside of Enugu.

Patience Ozokwor stated that if an actor or actress is talented, he or she does not need to relocate to become a star.

She said:

“But for me, I said I am going to stay in Enugu, inside the village and when I go to Lagos, I tell them I am a village woman.

I stay at Ngwo in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State and God has shown me that you can become a star from anywhere.

You don’t need to be in Lagos or Abuja, If you are good enough, they will call you even from America.

She added that she had received the Member Federal Republic award and the Centenary Award which is given once every 100 years.”

“I did not even know who put my name there, so you can be picked from anywhere. That is the statement I wanted to make in this industry but I am happy that I am saying it today.”
