“Ikate has been my home for 8 years” Toyin Abraham Reacts To News Of Oro Festival Scheduled For Election Day By Oba Elegushi

The announcement of the Oro festival, which will take place from Wednesday to Saturday, has elicited mixed reactions from Lagos residents.

Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, the Elegushi of Ikate Land, is said to have set aside three days to observe the annual ritual in his domains.

While many people do not object to the festival, the dates on which it is scheduled to be observed have been a major source of contention among state residents.

According to the report, the festival will run from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m., beginning on Wednesday and concluding on Saturday morning.

Some Lagosians, particularly residents of the area, have blasted the monarch for attempting to prevent non-indigenous residents from voting on Saturday.

They questioned the logic of scheduling such a traditional rite on election day.

The monarch has however set the record straight saying it has nothing to do with the governorship election slated for Saturday.

Reacting to the development on her twitter handle, the renowned Nollywood Actress, Toyin Abraham said Oba Elegushi is very accommodating and the festival will not interfere with the election in any way.

She wrote: “For almost 8 years now, Ikate has been my home. Not only is Ikate known to be one of the most peaceful places on the Island, Kabiyesi Saheed is very accommodating and Ikate people are very nice and friendly as well.

“The Oro festival is not a new doctrine.

“They do this every year and it won’t in anyway affect the election.

“And oro ends by 5am on Saturday morning, in time before the election,So there is no interference with the election or people coming to vote at 8/9am”
