OFFICIAL: Chelsea confirm Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager

Mauricio Pochettino

On Monday, Mauricio Pochettino was formally named as the next manager of Chelsea.

The 51-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract with a one-year extension option.

Pochettino will begin work on July 1st, just in time for the club’s preseason visit to the United States.

He was recognized early in the process as Chelsea’s first candidate and has promised to collaborate closely with co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stuart.

Although co-controlling owner Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital executive Behdad Eghbali gave their final approval, Winstanley and Stuart led the search, saying in a joint statement: “Mauricio’s experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities, and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we move forward.”

“He is a winning coach, who has worked at the highest levels, in multiple leagues and languages. His ethos, tactical approach and commitment to development all made him the exceptional candidate.”
