Amapiano Musician And Producer DJ Maphorisa Arrested For Beating Girlfriend Thuli Phongolo

DJ Maphorisa, an Amapiano performer and producer, was arrested after being accused of assaulting Thuli Phongolo.

The assault occurred inside Thuli Phongolo’s home in Sandton, Johannesburg, according to City Press. The former Generations: The Legacy actress filed an assault report against the Ba Straata hitmaker at the Sandton Police Station.

Thuli was reportedly attacked after approaching Maphorisa about a contentious disagreement they had during a performance slated for May 6, 2023. The two celebrities clashed in plain view of people watching the programme.

She said in a statement;

“On Sunday, 2023/5/7, at about 12 pm, I was at my place of residence with my boyfriend, Sonnyboy Sekowe, better known as DJ Maphorisa. I confronted him so that we could talk about our argument, which happened the previous night during his gig.

“He became aggressive and started to punch me with his fists on my chest. He held me and took me to the balcony and grabbed me aggressively by my neck.”

Thuli phoned her manager after the incident, who drove her to the Sandton Police Station to file a domestic violence report against DJ Maphorisa. According to the police report, the actress suffered serious neck injuries.

According to insiders who talked to City Press, the two celebrities’ relationship has been going through a difficult patch. This was not the first time DJ Maphorisa and Thuli Phongolo got into a heated confrontation. a source said to the newspaper;

“They had a fight in early December after accusations of infidelity. They had another fight last month but never got to the police station.”

On allegations of assault, DJ Maphorisa will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court later today.
