“No Shortcuts, No Connections, Just Hard Work” – Thuli Phongolo Reflects on Her Journey

Thuli Phongolo Reflects on Her Journey

South African actress and DJ Thulisile Phongolo, fondly known as Thuli P, is reminding everyone why she remains one of the industry’s most determined and multifaceted talents. Over the weekend, the Generations: The Legacy star took to Instagram to celebrate her journey — reflecting on her achievements and the hustle that built her success from the ground up.

Been a boss since the age of 15, let’s not forget that… been a boss. THULI PHONGOLO… all me, no connections… no shortcuts, no dodgy deals, just hard work. I did THAT!” she proudly declared.

Thuli’s career is nothing short of inspiring. From her early acting days in Tshisa and Thula to her breakout role in Generations, and later starring in Makoti, The Republic, Rockville, and The Wife, her resume reads like a catalogue of South African television hits.

But acting is just one side of her brilliance. Thuli P is also a successful DJ, brand ambassador, and media personality. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Brand Management from the University of Johannesburg — a fact she humorously revisited in her post:

“Oops sorry, I meant that… it’s been so long, I forgot. My classmate had to correct me. Uhm, also left out that I’m a CHEF (Capsicum student) let me cook…”

The star also shared a throwback photo from her very first brand shoot at age nine, offering a glimpse into her early introduction to the entertainment industry.

“My dad told my mom to pull me out of my then agency cause I was too young for the industry. I didn’t get it then and my heart was torn but now I’m so grateful that he took that decision. But then Gaenor took me on at 15, thanks to Emir Andantshangase who saw my potential and went on to be my direct contact dealing with mom audition to audition, job to job.”

Beyond her career milestones, Thuli’s post was a reminder of her authenticity and drive.

“I’m just a girl! I love life, full of it & love LOVE! In contrast, I’m a fighter! I own my voice and stand by principle. Very funny, I get it from my grandfather… a comedian of note! Hardworking. I just love the idea of maximising potential. Strict! Strict! Strict! To know me is to really love me—dope gyal, ANYTHING BUT ORDINARY.”

Whether she’s spinning tracks, lighting up the screen, or speaking her truth, Thuli Phongolo continues to prove she’s not just a star — she’s a force.
