Inno Morolong to Share Insider Perspective in Showmax’s Slay Queens Docu-Series

South African influencer and club hostess Inno Morolong is set to feature in the highly anticipated Showmax Original docu-series, Slay Queens, offering viewers an insider’s look into the lives of women navigating the “soft life” in South Africa’s urban nightlife.

The five-part series premieres on 31 October 2025, with new episodes dropping every Friday. Produced by Vusi Zion and Kaimal Pictures—the creative minds behind the Showmax hit Soft LifeSlay Queens promises an unflinching exploration of a controversial lifestyle, blending personal stories from slay queens, ballers, and industry insiders.

“Slay Queens was born from a need to hold up a mirror to a world we often speak about in whispers, memes, or judgment, but rarely listen to directly,” said Zion. “My role as a filmmaker is not to sanitise or sensationalise but to create a platform where voices that are usually dismissed or caricatured can be heard in their full complexity.”

Inno Morolong, a BTech Communications Science graduate from the Central University of Technology, brings her experience as a club hostess and outspoken influencer to the series.

While she does not live the life of a slay queen, Morolong provides insight into the nightclub industry and the dynamics shaping the women involved.

She is also a recipient of multiple awards as a club hostess and influencer, including a recent GBV Survivor Award for her advocacy work.

“I shared my views as a club host and what I see at the clubs daily,” Morolong explained. “I am well-travelled and experienced in the topic. But I do not live the life of a slay queen. It is a tough industry. In the docu-series, I detail how far the girls go to secure the bag and how they hunt for men.”

Other notable voices in the documentary include:

  • DJ and influencer Cyan Boujee, discussing the pressures of staying relevant in the spotlight.

  • Amapiano star Mr JazziQ, providing a front-row perspective as owner of Johannesburg’s Vibes on Main.

  • Author and media personality Jackie Phamotse, reflecting on her experience as a former slay queen.

  • Anthropologist Lebo Masango, offering an academic perspective on the socio-economic factors driving the slay queen phenomenon.

“Slay Queens doesn’t just document a lifestyle,” Zion added. “It challenges the systems, stories, and stereotypes behind it. It shines a light on those who live, critique, and capitalise on the slay queen era.”

With Inno Morolong anchoring the series in authenticity, viewers can expect a candid, informed, and thought-provoking exploration of South Africa’s nightlife culture and the forces shaping the modern slay queen era.
