Olawale Rasheed, a media aide to Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has come out to provide additional details about the incident, which has been the subject of ongoing public outrage following claims of an attempted assassination attempt on the governor during the state’s Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
In an interview with Seun Akinbaloye on Channels TV’s “Politics Today” on Wednesday night, Rasheed said that the governor appeared to have walked right into a trap that his rivals had allegedly set for him after attending the ceremonial Eid-el-Kabir Prayer with his entourage.
The governor’s security noticed that armed men had started setting up defensive positions around the area as soon as he arrived, according to the media assistant.
He said; “on the issue of the assassination attempt, I want to narrate what happened. What we noticed when the governor entered the prayer ground, it was as if he walked into a trap. In addition to the issue of the governor’s seat being taken over by his political rival, we also noticed some armed, strange-looking men taking up strategic positions around the area.
Initially, we thought they were part of the security detail in the area. But when got closer to the front row to join the prayers, we noticed that these guys were armed. And it was at this point that the commotion began, and the governor had to be whisked back into the car by his security men.”
