Chief Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President of Nigeria, has clearified that the funds he handed former Rivers State Governor Mr. Nyesom Wike in 2015 to further his political ambition were from his personal account and not the account of Akwa Ibom State, where he previously held the office of Governor.
He recently revealed this in response to remarks made by Wike during a recently held Thanksgiving service.
Akpabio said: ” That money came from my savings in the telecoms industry where I was a Managing director. The money was not from the Government of Akwa Ibom State, I should make that clarification. I paid tax on that money; if you check you will know “.
Because the former governor of Akwa Ibom State supported him and offered him 200,000,000 Naira ($200,000) when he ran for governor of Rivers State, Wike had stated that he supported the former governor for the position of Senate President.
