Former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, recently explained why he backed Godswill Akpabio for Senate President of the National Assembly.
Wike described Akpabio as a devoted supporter who helped him during his own campaigns in 2014 and 2015, even donating N200 million to his electoral campaign.
Wike expressed thanks for Akpabio’s prior support and declared that he believed in repaying the favour at a special Thanksgiving service organised by his family in Obio-Akpor.
In response to Wike’s accusation, Akpabio stated that the N200 million he contributed in 2015 did not originate from Akwa Ibom state finances, where he served as governor. He explained that the funds came from his own savings as a managing director in the telecoms industry prior to entering politics.
