After his departure from Chelsea was officially announced, Edouard Mendy chose to congratulate Roman Abramovich rather than the club’s current owners.
The Senegalese international departed Chelsea on Wednesday after agreeing to a lucrative contract with Al Ahli of the Saudi Pro League.
Then, rather than the new American owner Todd Boehly, he posted on social media to praise the previous owner, Roman Abramovich, and other former employees.
“I want to sincerely thank Roman, Marina (Granovskaia), Petr (Cech), Christophe (Lollichon, a former Chelsea goalkeeping coach), and the entire staff who made it possible for me to represent this prestigious club,” the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations winner said.
He went on to thank his former teammates and fans of the west London outfit for their support throughout his time at Chelsea.
“Although it’s time for me to turn a new page…” the Senegalese said.
