The decision to name Carlo Ancelotti as the Selecao’s head coach for the upcoming season has angered Brazil’s President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
The South American giants have appointed Fluminense manager Fernando Diniz as interim coach, with Ancelotti expected to take over the squad after the 2024 Copa America.
The employment of Ancelotti has not yet been formally confirmed, although it may do so next year.
The Italian will take over as the nation’s new head coach in 2019, according to Brazilian FA President Ednaldo Rodrigues.
In June 2024, Ancelotti’s Real Madrid agreement will come to an end.
But the country’s President is said to be unhappy with a foreigner’s appointment as the country’s manager.
The South American giants have not had a permanent manager from abroad since 1925.
Perhaps Lula wants to keep the tradition of appointing local coaches.
The 77-year-old told Brazilian television network SBT, “He was never the coach of Italy.
“Why doesn’t he solve the problem of Italy, which didn’t even play in the last World Cup.”
