Muyiwa Awoniyi, the manager of Grammy-winning singer Tems,has chastised musicians who are fixated on ruling the Apple Music Nigeria chart.
He added that the Afrobeats music scene has gone global and claimed that such performers are out of touch with reality.
On Monday, Awoniyi made this claim via his Twitter account.
He wrote, “Imagining caring about Apple Music NG in 2023. Are you a baby? Or you don’t know the scene is global now?”
Quizzed by a fan on why he thinks the Apple Music Nigeria chart is irrelevant, Awoniyi explained: “The amount of users of the app within the country is what makes a chart relevant. You clearly don’t even know how many people even have Apple Music in Nigeria.”
There have been speculations that some artists manipulate chart positions on Apple Music Nigeria using a technology called “streaming farm.”
See his post below;
Let me help you out here. In 2016, there was no top 100 ng. It was all genres (top right) one would have to search to see where your music sat. There were also no stream farms cuz Apple Music wasn’t in Naij. Also afrobeats competed with all other world music. Understood?
