Rising Nigerian artist and KeyQaad signee, Kaestyle, has stirred controversy after alleging that Muyiwa Awoniyi, the former manager of superstar singer Omah Lay, was actually sacked, contrary to the narrative Awoniyi shared online.
Earlier on Friday, Muyiwa Awoniyi took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the end of his working relationship with Omah Lay, whom he managed for several years. While he hinted at an amicable separation, Kaestyle quickly posted a cryptic jab suggesting otherwise.
“Dem sack you, you say I’m no longer… lol always quick to go on social media,” Kaestyle wrote, fueling speculations that Awoniyi’s exit wasn’t as clean-cut as it seemed.
Awoniyi, perceiving the message as a direct attack, fired back by revealing that he only took on managing Omah Lay to help the singer escape a “slave deal” with their label, KeyQaad—a label Kaestyle is also signed to.
“I agreed to manage Omah to get him out of the very slave deal that you signed. Now he is out, I also am out. You on the other hand are a slave,” Awoniyi wrote.
Despite the online back-and-forth, Omah Lay took a more gracious tone, praising his former manager in a heartfelt tweet:
“@IAmDonawon The most intelligent n*gga I’ve met so far in the game, love you forever my blood.”
Awoniyi responded, “Love you my brother. Clarity of mind is on the way now finally!”
Awoniyi also disclosed that Omah Lay is set to exit KeyQaad and launch his own music imprint called “Boy Alone”, named after the singer’s acclaimed debut album. However, Omah Lay has yet to officially confirm his departure from KeyQaad or the launch of his label.
The unfolding drama highlights ongoing tensions within the label, suggesting that more revelations could follow as the artists continue to chart their independent paths.
