Mason Mount’s first new teammate to officially welcome him to the club was Manchester United player Bruno Fernandes, who enquired of the midfielder: “What took you so long?”
Mount signed a five-year contract with the team and finalised a £55 million transfer to Old Trafford this morning.
After Chelsea turned down United’s first three offers, a deal was finally reached after Mount made it clear he would not extend his contract with the team.
Mount had offers from Arsenal and Liverpool on the table, but his favourite location was Old Trafford, so it was understandable that he was happy when the deal ultimately closed.
Mount was dissatisfied because he wanted the transaction to be finalised when the transfer window opened in mid-May, but it was the result of months of speculation.
However, it seems that Mount wasn’t the only one who was frustrated, as Fernandes questioned why the midfielder’s contract was being finalised so slowly.
Taking to Instagram to post a photo of himself arguing with Mount during a game at Old Trafford in 2022, Fernandes wrote: ‘What took you so long to sign’.
The playmaker followed that up with an angry face emoji, before saying: ‘Welcome @masonmount’ with a bicep emoji alongside.
