The arrest and imprisonment of suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele were nullified by an Abuja High Court on Friday.
Following an application by Emefiele, the order was granted by the presiding judge, Bello Kawu.
Emefiele was relieved of his duties as CBN Governor on 9 June and told to hand over his duties to Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, Deputy Governor of the Operations Directorate, by President Bola Tinubu.
The next day, the Department of State Services (DSS) officially declared that Emefiele was in its custody for “some investigative reasons.”
Since then, Emefiele has been kept in DSS custody, and the department has maintained that it has a valid court order to do so.
The DSS announced on Thursday that Emefiele had been charged and will appear in court as a result of an FCT decision.
