Manchester City is now the best football club in the world. The English Premier League titans are now having their most lucrative period in club history. Three consecutive English and Spanish titles, as well as many awards earned in the last five seasons, attest to this. The Cityzens won the treble last season, becoming only the second English team to do so.
With an already formidable squad at Pep Guardiola’s disposal, the club has taken a cautious approach to the summer transfer season. However, activity could heat up soon as the team aims to sign Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig.
Last season, Pep Guardiola devised a novel 3-2-4-1 configuration in which he used three center-backs with John Stones, a gifted ball-player, pairing with Rodri in midfield. This formation change was a success. However, it requires three quality centre-backs, which is why Guardiola is interested in signing Josko Gvardiol.
Earlier in the transfer window, Manchester City had signed Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea for €30 million. The Croatian midfielder was signed as a replacement for Ilkay Gündogan and he would be expected to partner with Kevin De Bruyne in the attacking midfield roles.
If Josko Gvardiol signs, he would be partnering with Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias in the back three. Upfront, Manchester City would have Erling Haaland leading the line, flanked by Jack Grealish and Phil Foden.
