According to reports, Victor Osimhen and Napoli will soon agree to a new contract.
After numerous rounds of negotiations with the player’s agent, Roberto Calenda, Napoli and Osimhen are reportedly close to finalizing a new contract.
However, there is still debate around the release clause.
Osimhen’s entourage wants a lesser fee, and while the club wants to pay about €200 million (£171 million/$219 million), a deal might be struck at about €150 million (£128 million/$164 million).
Despite interest from other clubs, Napoli is close to getting Osimhen’s signature. The 24-year-old striker was crucial to their bid for the Scudetto last year as he scored 26 goals and contributed four assists.
If Osimhen indeed signs the extension, the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain will have to look at options elsewhere.
A couple of weeks earlier, Calenda had dismissed reports of potential issues over a new contract with Napoli and president Aurelio De Laurentiis has always been bullish in his confidence that the striker will stay at the club despite interest from some of the biggest names in Europe.
