Ondo state governor Rotimi Akeredolu has returned to Nigeria after receiving medical treatment abroad.
A reliable government source confirmed his return on Thursday. Governor Akeredolu arrived in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, and will be resting at his private residence for the night. Cabinet ministers are on their way to welcome him back.
“The governor (Akeredolu) is back in the country. We would be in Ibadan at his private residence to take some rest. I’m aware that some members of the state executive council would also visit him there and welcome him,” the source said.
A photo of the governor was shared by his wife, Betty Anyanwu, with the caption “homebound”.
Governor Akeredolu had taken a 21-day leave and medical trip to Germany and was expected to return on July 6, 2023.
However, his extended stay caused controversy and political disputes in the state.
On July 15, the governor announced that his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, should take over the running of the state in “acting capacity” pending the time he would resume and be certified fit by his medical doctors.
