The Burkina Faso military government has announced that it successfully thwarted a recent coup attempt by certain security and intelligence services.
The transitional government of the West African nation revealed on September 27 that the public should be informed about the foiled coup attempt carried out by the Burkinabe intelligence and security services on September 26, 2023.
The government has arrested the officers involved in the plot and will continue to search for other perpetrators.
They have promised to provide more information on the new attempt to take over the government in the following day.
On September 26, hundreds of people in Burkina Faso demonstrated their support for the transitional government in Ouagadougou, the capital, following reports of mutiny among the military hierarchy.
In a tweet on September 27, Captain Ibrahim Traore, the leader of the military junta, also expressed his support.
He then vowed to ensure that the transitional government is safe, irrespective of the adversity and various plot to stop the progress of the country to achieve sovereignty.
