AFCON qualifiers: Why I didn’t play Torunarigha, Gift Orban against Sao Tome – Jose Peseiro

NFF Appoints Jose Peseiro as Super Eagles Head Coach

Jose Peseiro, the Super Eagles manager, has revealed why KAA Gent duo Jordan Torunarigha and Gift Orban did not play in Sunday’s triumph over Sao Tome and Principe.

The Super Eagles defeated the lower-ranked African side 6-0 in Uyo’s Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Orban was not on the team. The former Germany underage international served as a non-playing substitute.

Orban was hurt in training and did not pass a late fitness test to play, according to reports.

The two players received their first national team calls.

Peseiro has said that it was his own decision not to introduce the German-born central defender off the bench.

“Orban felt pain in the muscles. He cannot play with injury because we have to take permission from the club. We have a good relationship with the clubs,” he told reporters after the game.

“About Jordan, I can put eleven players with five substitutes. Onyedika came two times and for the first time he played, Tyronne also. Jordan was the first time, he has time.

“I spoke with him last season and asked him if he wants to play with us and he said okay. He didn’t play today, can play in future.”
