Gunmen in the South Eastern part of the country have once again caused chaos, resulting in the deaths of eight security personnel.
This armed non-state actor targeted soldiers, policemen, and members of the Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday morning in the Umualumaku community of the troubled Imo state, where the security agents were reportedly burnt alive.
This horrifying event has instilled panic and fear among the area’s residents.
The attackers ambushed the joint security task force team, who were traveling in two security trucks, and subsequently set the vehicles on fire.
Unfortunately, none of the security personnel survived as they were trapped inside their burning vehicles.
A security operative, requesting confidentiality, revealed that additional teams have been deployed to the crime scene in an attempt to apprehend the suspects and retrieve the bodies of the deceased security operatives.
A local who pleaded anonymity for security reasons said that he saw the security agents a few minutes before they were set ablaze.
He said that the community had been thrown into confusion, owing to the development.
The spokesperson for the police in the state, Henry Okoye, confirmed the development but didn’t give details of what actually transpired.
