Joseph Aloba, the father of Mohbad, also known as Ilerioluwa Aloba, has revealed how the late singer met his wife, Wunmi, while at Naira Marley’s Marlian Music label.
The death of Mohbad has caused a lot of speculation for over a week due to the circumstances surrounding his passing. He passed away on September 12, 2023.
Joseph Aloba described Mohbad as a down-to-earth and humble person. He mentioned that they had known each other since they were young in Oke-Iletu, Ikorodu, Lagos, before reconnecting at Naira Marley’s label. However, there was no romantic relationship between them before their reunion.
Clarifying this through the song “Komajensun” which Mohbad sang in 2020, Aloba spoke of a lyric, “Naira lo gbe omo fun mi, I’m not a womaniser”, in the song referencing how Mohbad reconnected with Wunmi at Marlian record.
“He (Mohbad) met the lady (Wunmi) there (at Marlian Music) but they had known each other from Oke-Iletu, even though the lady was a student then,” Aloba disclosed to this reporter.
The Lagos State Police Command is currently investigating to find out the details surrounding the artist’s death.
In the meantime, the Coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death has scheduled October 13, 2023, for witnesses to come forward and testify.
Attorney Funmi Falana, who represented Mohbad’s family, alongside other lawyers, had closed-door proceedings to discuss the modalities for hearing of evidence.
Speaking to the journalist after the proceedings, Falana said, “What we did today was to decide how and when the procedures would help get justice. The date has been fixed and will be bringing our witnesses.”
