During the English Premier League trophy tour in Nairobi, Kenya, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, the former captain of the Super Eagles, openly acknowledged his preference for watching European leagues over the Nigeria Professional Football League.
Okocha emphasized that in order to attract high-quality sponsors, the NPFL needs to enhance its standards.
He urged the NPFL board to seek inspiration from European leagues and make necessary improvements accordingly.
“I don’t think I’d watch the Nigerian League if there is a Premier League match on television, that is if I am being honest, because the Premier League is more attractive,” he stated.
“We need to go back to the drawing board and give ourselves time and put something together that will make our leagues attractive.”
