EPL: Lisandro Martinez out for extended spell after aggravating foot injury

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez is set for an extended period on the sidelines due to injury.

The foot injury he suffered in April has been aggravated, causing him to miss upcoming matches.

Despite playing through the injury in recent defeats against Brighton and Bayern Munich, the setback occurred during the loss against Arsenal on September 3.

Next steps are being considered as assessments continue, the statement added, but Martinez will miss an “extended period”. He is expected to be out for around two months.

Adding to their defensive woes, Sergio Reguilon will also be absent for the upcoming game against Crystal Palace due to a minor injury.

Consequently, Manchester United will be lacking a senior left-back.

Manager Erik ten Hag has been dealing with several injury concerns this season, but has some positive news with the fitness of Mason Mount, Sofyan Amrabat, Raphael Varane, and Harry Maguire.

With Martinez out, either Maguire, Victor Lindelof, or Jonny Evans will be filling in at left-back for the foreseeable future.
