Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will join Birmingham City’s coaching staff, according to KemiFilani.
The former England international would take over for John Eustace, who was fired on Monday.
Rooney, who recently left his job as manager of Major League Soccer club DC United, is expected to return to England to manage Birmingham.
Birmingham sit sixth in the Sky Bet Championship table.
The statement from the Championship side announcing John Eustace’s sack suggested that the manager lacks a winning mentality.
“With this in mind, Birmingham City has today parted company with Head Coach, John Eustace,” it added.
The club said they will announce their next manager in the coming days with Wayne Rooney in mind.
According to them, the new boss “will be responsible for creating an identity and clear ‘no fear’ playing style that all Birmingham City teams will adopt and embrace.”
